How Taylor Fritz reached the Wimbledon semifinals

It could barely have been a more difficult start for Taylor Fritz at this year’s Wimbledon.

In the first round, he faced Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, a player who currently possesses one of, if not the biggest serve in professional tennis.

The second round saw another five-set thriller, this time against Canadian Gabriel Diallo, but Fritz once again found a way to win.

Up next was Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who pushed Fritz to four sets but ultimately couldn’t find a way past the big-hitting American.

The fourth found then brought some rare reprieve for Fritz at this year’s Wimbledon, with Australian Jordan Thompson retiring early due to injury – he was already a set down to the American.

The quarterfinals was another potential banana skin for Fritz, but he found a way past Russian Karen Khachanov in four sets to book his place in the first Wimbledon semifinal of his career.

Despite having a difficult route to this point, he has an even harder match waiting for him against Carlos Alcaraz.
